Day in the life of Lewis, Business Development Manager
For this months ‘Day in the Life’, we’re back at the Nursling office for a catch up chat with our cheeky chap, Lewis Wyatt, Business Development Manager. Lewis tells us what it’s like working in the sales department here at Waltet…and why he’s not going to go on any more week night drinks with the team!
Q. Describe your role at Waltet – your job title and what the role entails.
A: I am the Business Development Manager here at Waltet where my role includes quoting and selling material, skips & planings. I like to remind the team that I also bring down the average age in the office and I also (luckily for them) bring the atmosphere…
Q: How long have you been working at Waltet?
A: I started at Waltet in October 2020 as an apprentice and worked my way up the ranks! I started out as a Sales and Logistics Apprentice, progressed to Administrator then to Sales Rep and I’ve just recently been promoted to Business Development Manager.
Q: What’s the first task you usually tackle when you arrive at the office?
A: When I get in to the office I normally have stuff to put on the system from calls that I’ve received before arriving in! I say hello to everyone and get my computer set up and ready for the day. My colleagues would say that I spend around 10 minutes of the start of the day annoying them – some aren’t morning people. No names mentioned!
Q: What is it about the waste recycling industry that interests you?
A: Honestly? No two days are the same!
Q: What are your favourite aspects of your job?
A: I’m very close with everyone in the office, we are a really close-knit team – that really helps and makes every day enjoyable. I also have a good customer base that I have worked with for years, so I can help them out of some sticky situations with last minute deliveries or pick ups, but also have a laugh with them.
Q: What are the main challenges you typically encounter in your role, and how do you overcome them?
A: When customers are in desperate need of material or one of our other services, I do everything I can to get it there as soon as physically possible.
Q: What do you find most rewarding about your job?
A: Walking past a site and seeing a project Waltet have been involved in. I also like how we are all valued and appreciated – as shown by my recent promotion, hard work does pay off here and it’s really motivating.
Q: What is it like working with the team at Waltet?
A: It’s a really relaxed workplace but we all work really well together – if one of us needs help, there’s always someone on hand to help out if needed. It’s more like a family here which is nice.
Q: Do you have any opportunities for professional development or learning as part of your job?
A: Yes, we are always offered training course to improve us professionally.
Q: In your opinion what three words describe Waltet as a business?
A: Best. In. Hampshire.
Q: Share a fact about you that may surprise people.
A: I thought I could handle a ‘school night’ out with Daryll and Dani on a Wednesday – I had to take the next two days off. Says it all. Or the time in Leicester but I’ll leave that for another time……
